Ben Nevis

On the way down from Ben Nevis

’Technology applied for the sake of those who wish to escape it”. This is was it says on the inside of my mountain boots who has been sitting in my flat all weekend. - A really cool saying by the way. This was a bit of a shame as I this weekend hiked to the top of the highest summit in the United Kingdom, Ben Nevis.

University registration

Apparently we haven’t got anything regarding dates sorted on this trip. We were absolutely certain that registration started the thirteenth; however, as with the rest of this trip, it wasn’t until the fourteenth. But it doesn’t actually matter that much as the only professor, who can actually allow for us to take PG classes, isn’t back from holiday until the twenty-second!

Living the life

I just received an email from my parents this morning, which sort of made me realize that they are pretty much left for them selves by now, except for the occasional call for money we kids make (I suppose especially me).

The game of pool

I never really understood the concept of pool or billiard if you want. The game consist mainly two things. The one is balls made of hard wood which makes them excellent to toss at people, and the other is rather long and hard wooden clubs. Both would be excellent in a fight. And this is where it gets all wrong. Where as golf that more or less consist of the same two things, the game is played by rather old people who can hardly walk and never would get into a fight. Pool, however, is usually played at rather disgusting bars by drunken fat people wearing leather vests with lots of tattoos.

Hi everybody.
My new website with blog is now up and running. Feel free to post comments or throw me an email, if my life is irresistibly interesting and you want to know more! I’ve posted some “old” stories so that you can be updated on the past few months of my life.
So remember to add my site to your favourites, in case you forget the weird web address, and check back every once in a while to see how I’m doing.

The apartment

Well, just a short news tale on what I’m actually living in. I suspect most of you are thinking: “Hey, he can’t possible afford the rent in even a refrigerator cardboard box, and he’s definitely not bright enough to find the entrance in it anyway”. – Well, sorry to disappoint you mates, but Martin and I have moved into the rather posh “Blackfriars”, as I’ve described previously. Well, here are a few pictures of the spot and try not to get to desirous – I ain’t sharing that bed with anyone!

If you wish to send me gifts, money, or just want to pay me a visit you’ll have to find me here:

6 Blackfriars Road, Apt. 408
Glasgow G1 1QL
Scotland

Tel: +44 (0) 77 88 63 11 50  (leave out the (0) if you’re calling from somewhere outside the UK)

Obviously there will be an amazing price for the one who sends me the most spectacular postcard while I’m here.

A tale of tools

Well, as it seems to be some time ago since I’ve last told of interesting tales, it is now the time to tell a small tale of the “Spork”.
Long have I searched for a tool. Not just any tool, but a tool that provides you with everything you desire. I have looked at the Swiss army knife, the Leathermann multi tool, the AK47. All fulfilled the basic needs for a tool; however, the all seemed to be missing something that I quite couldn’t put my finger on. And it was not until the day I got the “Spork” into my hands, I realized what my precious really were. Even though you can’t kill half the Taliban as easily with the Spork as the AK47, you can’t cut down an entire forest as easily as with the Leathermann, and that MacGyver unquestionably wouldn’t have been MacGyver without the Swiss army knife, the Spork has something the others lack: The ability to work as an appropriate tool to cut, hold, and move food to the mouth. Or in shorter terms, to eat with, as the most you know, matters a great deal to me. Therefore, never leave home without your trusty Spork.

Preparing for five months in Scotland

Packing before the journey

Imagine the horror for me: I need to bring all sorts of stuff to avoid getting cranky, bored or fat if I don’t get to do all my outdoor activities and my work out. Thus, I need to bring not just a few things, but more like a ton of different stuff. Climbing shoes, safety harness, carabineers, safety gear, chalk bag, express carabineers, tent, cooking gear, first aid kit, mountain boots, sleeping bag, sleeping mattress, cutlery, mountain bike (and which one of them to bring???), helmet, cycling shoes, tools, lock, a few spare parts, clothing for climbing, clothing for cycling, clothing for hiking, winter clothing, autumn clothing, everyday clothing, posh shoes, running shoes, hat, gloves, sweaters. And on top of all this, there’s the serious stuff such as books, laptop, transfer papers for the university, and not to forget, my passport. All this to be held in the weight limit of 20kg! Obviously that was impossible so the bike and the belonging gear to this was packing in a cardboard box which Fusion will ship to me, as soon as I get a permanent address.
